Bunion and Hammertoe Correction
Bunions and hammertoes are toe deformities that often develop following years of wearing tight and/or restricting high heels and shoes and possibly in conjunction with genetic factors.
Bunions occur when pressure is applied to the side of the big toe resulting in swelling and shifting both outwards and inwards towards other toes. Having toes bent for prolonged periods of time can cause the toes muscles to shorten which results in the hammertoe deformity. Less often but also to be considered, hammertoes may develop from muscle, joint and nerve damage due to conditions like arthritis, diabetes or even stroke.
Bunion surgery entails aligning the big toe and, if needed, straightens the second through fourth toes. This procedure successfully alleviates the pain associated with bunions and hammertoes, and is specifically designed to prevent the condition from reoccurring. This procedure is generally an outpatient procedure having you return to the comfort of your own home the same day as your surgery. Recovery time can also be as little as 2 weeks.
